Mission Statement

Resilience is strongest when it grows from what a community already holds: its knowledge, its people and its heritage. With this, I aim to help communities, institutions, governments, and the experts who serve them turn those strengths into lasting, locally led solutions such that communities meet change rooted in who they are.

About Nina

I have never fit neatly into one title as I sit at the intersection of many roles: Engineer, Researcher, Heritage Specialist, Mentor, Instructor, Speaker, Facilitator, World Traveler, and Sailor. However, a single thread ties them together: a life of service.

My purpose is to help communities lead their own resilience. I want the places, stories and knowledge that make a community who they are to ensure be at the forefront of any resilience design-making, policy step or action plan.  That instinct took shape early when I explored the different cultures within the pages of National Geographic as a kid and truly, it never left. It led me into engineering, where I spent over a decade restoring heritage sites and working alongside those who care for them and it's what eventually drew me from industry into research, and today, into my own consulting practice. What connects every chapter in my career journey isn't a title; it is the people I get to work with, and the belief that the best solutions are built with them, not for them.

As an Afro-Caribbean Latina, I understand in a personal way what it means to hold onto your heritage while moving through spaces that weren't designed with you in mind. That understanding is why this work matters to me, not as an outsider studying communities, but as someone who recognizes their strength, their memory, and their right to shape what comes next. It's why I show up the way I do, and why the communities I work with tend to trust that I'm truly with them.

Away from the work, I'm happiest on the water — sailing around Key Biscayne in greater Miami. That passion came to me through my volunteer work with Shake-A-Leg Miami, a nonprofit providing adaptive watersports for people with physical and intellectual disabilities. It's a place that captures what I believe most: with the right support, everyone deserves the chance to navigate their own course.
